New Fantasyland Expansion Model Pictures from D23

If you can’t be at D23 this weekend and you’re dying for a closer look at the model of the Fantasyland expansion which is on display out there, here are some pictures in which you can view all of the little details.

We’ll start with a long view of the entire model.

Here’s the castle gates that will extend around Fantasyland.  You can see the Little Mermaid Ride, the Dwarfs’ Cottage and Mine Train and Circusland in the background.

Here’s a long view of the Storybook Circus.

And this is The Great Goofini, formerly the Barnstormer in Toon Town.

This is the Casey Jr play area.

And of course “Dueling” Dumbos.

Another long shot shows the Mine Train in the middle (and Beast’s castle way in the far left).

Close-up of the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Coaster.

The Dwarfs’ cottage where guests will board the Mine Train.

Here’s a closer look at the Little Mermaid Ride.

And a closer look at Beast’s castle.

  1. Beautiful! I hope the area turns out just as green and leafy as they’re making it out to be. WDW’s Fantasyland has always been a little too much like a strip mall with rides.

    • The original concept was that it would be an enchanted forrest. Some of that comcept was stripped away when the princess meet and greets were de-emphasized in favor of the 7 Dwarfs’ Mine Train. But I think the area will be relatively lush.

You’re right about WDW’s Fantasyland. It has always been kind of bare bones. But in addition to the expansion, the old Fantasyland is getting some love too. slowly but surely, they have been transforming the old to match the new. That’s why Pooh got a new interactive queue. And rumor has it Pan is soon to follow.

I think the final product will be worth the wait.

  2. Hopefully, a Peter Pan interactive queue will be more appropriate than the Haunted Mansion one, and sturdier than the Winnie the Pooh one.

    • Hopefully, but I wouldn’t count on it. If it makes the ridiculous wait for Pan a little less painful, I’ll be happy. Same with Dumbo.

I’m watching the live streaming of the D23 presentation. The Parks and Resorts presentation should start in a few minutes. Here’s a link if anyone is interested:
