Boardwalk Empire: “All In” with Rothstein and the Capones

**This article includes specific information about the 9/29/2013 episode of Boardwalk Empire. So…you know…spoilers**

This week on Boardwalk Empire, we got to wade into the lives of some of the series’ better-known historical characters. The relationships of the fictional (and semi-fictional) denizens of the show to these notorious figures bring a special excitement to Boardwalk Empire when they are handled well. Tonight they were handled very well, integrating the stories with powder keg results.

Boardwalk Empire: With Pulp

**If you have not seen this week’s episode, you might consider whether you want to continue reading**

Like the rest of us, sometimes what a fictional series needs is a break from its routine. This week, Nucky took a little trip to Tampa, Florida and what he found there was very promising indeed, once he turned over a couple of stones. My planned sojourn to the sunshine state next month will hopefully not include some of the types he encountered. But Nucky was not the only character venturing into new territory tonight.

Boardwalk Empire: Season 4 Starts in Earnest

**Do not read this article if you haven’t seen this week’s episode of Boardwalk Empire**

Last week’s season 4 premiere of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, while an hour of television which I personally enjoyed, was a necessary evil of transition between last year’s stories and these. Although a season 4 newbie should not consider skipping its first episode, the new arc of Boardwalk Empire really got a kick-start with episode two due to a couple of characters making their first appearances…

Boardwalk Empire: Chapter 1/2

**If you haven’t seen every single episode of Boardwalk Empire, Stop Reading Now**

The transition between Boardwalk Empire’s second and third seasons was necessarily abrupt. Last year, the show launched directly into its primary storyline about the entertainingly touchy and violent Gyp Rosetti. What we got was a mildly flawed but awesomely eccentric season which eventually erupted in a hail of machine gun fire and a series of machinations so wonderfully Machiavellian that we just can’t imagine what is coming next. Unlike last year, this time around, we have a lot of loose ends to weave into the continuing stories.

How I Became a Mental Patient: “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”

The first time I posted here about one of my ventures into acting on the local scene, I attempted to use the article in part to explain why my output on the site had slowed in recent days, giving it the apologetic top title “What I’ve Been Busy With.” Another similarly titled article followed last year. Well, I’ve decided two things: 1) there’s no need to apologize for pursuing my first love and 2) The title doesn’t “pop” anyway. So I’m going with the “How I Became…” top title that accompanied my first article about a role in film.

Okay…so about this show…

Boardwalk Empire: Season 4 anticipation

**If you haven’t seen the first 3 seasons of Boardwalk Empire, Stop Reading**

After the head-scratching uneasiness which afflicted many Boardwalk Empire fans between seasons 2 and 3 due to the shocking cast upheaval at the end of the show’s sophomore run, the excitement which appears to greet season 4 is truly heartening. This is despite widespread ambivalence over last year’s primary foil for Nucky, Bobby Cannavale’s Gyp Rosetti. Say what you want about the cartoonish nature of the character, he brought the tension and he brought the crazy, two aspects of Boardwalk Empire which are important in offsetting its often byzantine nature. After still more character turnover in season 3, we get additional prospective tommy-gun fodder for the streets of Atlantic City, Chicago, and New York City.
