July 15: Happy Birthday Linda Ronstadt and Forest Whitaker

We’ve got an eclectic bunch of birthdays today.  Eleven-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist Linda Ronstadt was at one point engaged to George Lucas.  She dodged that bullet in the mid-eighties, but she can’t avoid her seventieth birthday which is today.  Other birthdays include two of my wife’s teen crushes and also, Forest Whitaker.

Whitaker - Last King of Scotland

Whitaker won an Oscar for The Last King of Scotland in 2006.  This year, he turns 55.  Six years earlier, Whitaker was nominated for Worst Supporting Actor for Battlefield Earth, but he lost that award to costar Barry Pepper.  Meanwhile, Pepper has yet to win an Oscar.

If you’re wondering about Mrs. Lebeau’s teen crushes, she carried a torch for Beverly Hills 90210 star Brian Austin Green and Felicity star Scott Foley.  Foley, who can currently be seen on Grey’s Anatomy, turns 44 today and Green celebrates his forty-third birthday.  I should note that both are happily married with children which bodes well for me.

Other birthdays today include Huff Po founder Arianna Huffington who turns 66, National Treasure and Inglorious Basterds star Diane Kruger who is celebrating her fortieth,  and comedian Eddie Griffin who turns 48.

If today is your birthday, congratulations on sharing your big day with these notable names.  Birthday wishes to everyone celebrating a big day today.  Come back tomorrow for more celebrity birthdays.

  1. Happy Birthday to Linda Ronstadt. She’s been a favorite of mine since the 1970s. She had one of the most wonderful singing voices of her generation; though she’s probably thought of primarily as a pop-rock singer, she’s actually been very eclectic over the years, recording and performing a variety of styles that include country, folk and folk rock, jazz, mariachi, and even Gilbert & Sullivan. Sadly, her golden voice has been silenced for the past few years as her struggle with Parkinson’s Disease has left her unable to sing.

In addition to an engagement to George Lucas, she is known for a lengthy relationship with California’s past and present governor Jerry Brown.

  2. He he, I always related to Brian Austin Green’s David Silver character in that show, moving from an overall happy person to, I don’t know, less of a dork (at least how his narrative went; yeah, I watched:-), to an adult who seemed stressed. However, the underrated Andrea was my female fav, and my second would be Valerie:-).
