July 21: Happy Birthday Josh Hartnett and Ernest Hemingway

Josh Hartnett - Penny Dreadful

Circa the start of the 21st century, Josh Hartnett was thought to be the Next Big Thing.  Michael Bay’s big budget historical drama, Pearl Harbor, was supposed to establish the teen heartthrob as a bonafide movie star.  It didn’t quite work out that way.  Hartnett’s career floundered to the point where he essentially walked away from it all and became a What the Hell Happened subject.  Since then, the birthday boy has enjoyed a nice little comeback on Showtime’s Penny Dreadful.

As a WTHH star, Hartnett has his own gallery if you’d like to browse pictures covering his career.  He also pops up in the 2001 Razzies due to his participation in Pearl Harbor.  But he gets off pretty easy with just a nomination for Worst Screen Couple.  Today is the actor’s 38th birthday.

July 21 is also the date of birth for another WTHH subject.  Unfortunately, the late Robin Williams is no longer with us to celebrate.  Today would have been Williams’ 65th birthday.  Williams also has a gallery of his own.

Other notable names who share this date of birth include actress Juno Temple who turns 27, Orange is the New Black star Diane Guerrero who is celebrating her thirtieth birthday, folk singer Cat Stevens who goes by the name Yusuf Islam these days turns 68, model-turned-actress Ali Landry turns 43 and Rory Culkin is 27.

Also born on this day in 1899 was author Ernest Hemingway and TV actor Don Knotts was born in 1924.

If today is your birthday, congratulations on sharing your big day with these notable names.  Birthday wishes to everyone celebrating a big day today.  Come back tomorrow for more celebrity birthdays.

  2. I was surprised Penny Dreadful ended so soon. I hope Hartnett’s upswing continues with some more quality material.
