What the Hell Happened to Joe Dante?

Joe Dante

Joe Dante worked his way from cartoonist, to production assistant, to editor, all the way to director in his own right. His fondness for the old-school and homages to bygone eras of filmmaking inform most of his work, of which there is quite alot. Over his career, he has shifted gears without a hitch from adult-oriented work to become a name synonymous with clever family fun. Those flowers have wilted however, as he now finds himself increasingly involved in TV direction and non-theatrical films.

What the Hell Happened to Jeffrey Jones?

Jeffrey Jones

Jeffrey Jones

Jeffrey Jones is an actor most renowned for his roles playing the strange, generally unlikable comic foils to the audience’s hero. Jones is more than that, though. He is a purist who greatly values acting and takes the craft very seriously. He spent years honing his ability in acting schools, and many more in theater, including Broadway. When he imported that to the silver screen, it panned out well. Recently though, things haven’t been going so hot for Jones. Roles have dried up; he has been arrested on numerous occasions, the jailing centering around his status as a sex offender.

What the Hell Happened to Ivan Reitman?

Ivan Reitman

Ivan Reitman

Ivan Reitman began humbly, from the very earliest outset. His refugee family moved to Canada, which is where he received a degree in music. Having been introduced to filmmaking in college, he moved to Hollywood, comfortably moving into the director’s chair, where he fairly quickly rose to direct the top comedies being released. He was on top of the comedic world, working with Hollywood’s biggest stars churning out hits one after the other. Very gradually, his career tapered off. Although he still directs, Reitman has now seen his movies dumped into the bleak valleys of the early winter. We must ask:

Epcot World Showcase Bracket Game: France vs. Germany

Flag-Pins-France-Germany

In the beginning, EPCOT was designed by Walt Disney as the “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”, a futurist’s dream, what was to be a showcase of ingenuity and innovation. The idea of an entire showcase metropolis to be built in the orange groves of Central Florida passed away along with Walt, but his vision remained, albeit tweaked.

With the Magic Kingdom having been a major success, plans for a followup park were set in motion. Imagineers were conflicted on the park’s unifying theme, however. Some wanted to solely exhibit the showcase of Tomorrow that Walt had pictured, others wanted a World’s Fair-style display of the world’s nations and cultures.

What the Hell Happened to Tim Allen?

Tim Allen

Tim Allen

It may seem odd to ask “what the hell happened” about a guy who is currently starring on a network sitcom.  Tim Allen definitely didn’t disappear.  He’s still a decent-sized TV star.  But once upon a time, Allen was more than that.  At the peak of his career, Allen had the number one book, movie and TV show in the United States.  Since that time, his track record at the box office has been spotty.  He hasn’t starred in a mainstream movie in nearly a decade!

John_McTiernan

John McTiernan

John McTiernan was a Julliard graduate who became one of the biggest directors of the later 80’s and early 90’s.  His directing career got off to a quick start.  Within a few films, he was directing the biggest movie star in the world and reinventing genres altogether.  He directed the movies that made Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis into viable action stars.  But soon after, the hits stopped coming.  But McTiernan’s troubles didn’t end with his career cooling off.  The former A-list director spent 328 days in prison!
