Walt Disney World: First Time, Last Time, First Time in a Long Time (2017)

When the man whose name is also the name of your company indicated publicly that the company’s mission included constant growth, change, and progress you tend to be held to that standard. The fact that you’re charging an arm and a leg to visitors at your “Vacation Kingdom” also motivates mixing things up a bit. The Disney parks don’t always live up to this ideal and have certainly come under valid criticism because of it. But when you’ve got a large number of customers who are willing to visit over and over (like me) it indicates one of two things, or maybe a bit of both. A: They have actually provided a huge amount of experiences that stand up to lots of repeat business and have expanded over my lifetime from a single park with a few adjoining resorts to a mega complex with four theme parks, two water parks, close to twenty resort hotels, a huge entertainment and shopping complex, and a wide variety of other vacation options. B. With crowds continuing to be strong and earnings even stronger…maybe it doesn’t matter as much as it should.

Either way, they haven’t made me want to stop going yet. Not yet. We’ll see how that develops in the coming years though. In the meantime, I’m still finding myself capable of enjoying new things every time I visit. The above-pictured Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar is something I haven’t sampled since I was a kid and there was just one theme park on property. Maybe I’ll make a point to remedy that on my newest trip to Walt Disney World which is coming in just two weeks. Let’s take a look at what is new for me and what is tried and true.

Daffy Does Disney Springs

Happy Holidays LeBlog readers! During my week in Florida this season visiting family I managed to fit in a visit to Walt Disney World’s newly reimagined shopping and dining district. This is the area that used to be called “Downtown Disney” (and a couple of other names prior to that), but was re-christened as “Disney Springs” with the updates. As you may see in the above video, this involved more than just a few new vendors and a fresh coat of paint. Join your own Daffy Stardust as I tour the entire thing, offer my thoughts on a few food opportunities, and witness the exciting new holiday drone show. Yeah, Disney is putting on a nighttime show that features over one hundred drones flashing different colored lights and flying in tight formations to create a new kind of entertainment!

Walt Disney World: First Time, Last Time, First Time in a Long Time (2016)

epcot-2

Okay, so I’m about three weeks away from my next trip to Walt Disney World and I’m starting to get a little antsy to get the trip underway. If you’ve been reading along at home for a couple of years you know that I had the pleasure last summer of a three day trip across country to see Disneyland for the first time in 40 years. Obviously, that was a really great thing, but it also means that it will have been more than two calendar years since I spent any time in any of the Florida Disney parks by the time I leave for Orlando at the end of the month. I know, first world problems, right?

A trip of any kind will typically feature some stuff that you’re really looking forward to. Sometimes that’s because it’s something you’ve never tried before and you’re excited to give it a whirl and sometimes it’s an old standby that you just can’t get enough of. By way of working off some of my own impatience for the next few weeks to pass, I’ll be going over some of these things that I’ll be experiencing this time around. Join me after the break if you like!

Disneyland Bingo with Daffystardust! Video

What’s this, you say? Didn’t you go to Disneyland more than a year ago?

Well, yes you’re right about that, so in a way this video is sorely behind schedule isn’t it? Well, the whole point here is for me to teach myself how to use the iMovie program on my computer so that I can make even more videos in the future to share here at LeBlog. Heck , I’ve got a return trip to Walt Disney World in Florida coming up the first weekend of October and I’m really hoping to shoot a bunch more video on that trip than I ever have before, which would make any resulting composition I’d present here even more dynamic than what I was able to put together to show you today. The above video is just my second attempt, after a seven minute jaunt focusing only on my dog whetted my appetite to give this a try.

If you’re new to the blog and you’re reading this, welcome! Everyone who wishes to can go ahead and grab the Disneyland Bingo card I created just below the break. It is up to date and should be fully possible to accomplish if you attend the California Disney parks anytime soon.

Universal Dining: Three Broomsticks

unnamed-149

Travel is not a science. The best-laid plans can turn out impractical, and sometimes the best experiences are those you could never actually plan for. A successful traveller knows the value in being willing to break from the established game plan based on the actual circumstances. On the other hand, there are reasons for doing that intense pre-trip research and planning. You’re not supposed to miss the Golden Gate Bridge if you go to San Francisco. You shouldn’t miss the Space Needle if you go to Seattle. If you go to Disney World, you take a picture in front of the castle. It’s just what you do. Now I’m not going to put Three Broomsticks on the level of these icons, but I’m trying to make a point here. As great as so many things are in locations like San Francisco or Seattle or Disney World, there are signature spots or experiences that define them, and when it comes to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and dining, Three Broomsticks is that thing.

Tasty Tuesday: Crazy Cups

cup of joe

Anyone who knows me well knows that coffee is not optional.  My day doesn’t begin in earnest until I have had a cup.  The best articles on this site have all been fueled by caffeine.  If you have ever read an article you didn’t like, I probably wasn’t properly caffeinated.

I’m no gourmand.  And I don’t take my coffee black.  I like it with cream and some kind of sweetener.  And ideally, I like a flavored coffee over a regular cup of joe.  The weirder the flavor, the more it appeals to me.  French Vanilla and Hazelnut are boring.  Give me Bananas Foster Flambe!

Recently, I discovered a brand of coffee that caters to people who enjoy eccentric flavors so I thought I would share my discovery with any readers who might like to take a walk on the wild side of coffee flavors.
