Walt Disney World: First Time, Last Time, First Time in a Long Time (2017)

When the man whose name is also the name of your company indicated publicly that the company’s mission included constant growth, change, and progress you tend to be held to that standard. The fact that you’re charging an arm and a leg to visitors at your “Vacation Kingdom” also motivates mixing things up a bit. The Disney parks don’t always live up to this ideal and have certainly come under valid criticism because of it. But when you’ve got a large number of customers who are willing to visit over and over (like me) it indicates one of two things, or maybe a bit of both. A: They have actually provided a huge amount of experiences that stand up to lots of repeat business and have expanded over my lifetime from a single park with a few adjoining resorts to a mega complex with four theme parks, two water parks, close to twenty resort hotels, a huge entertainment and shopping complex, and a wide variety of other vacation options. B. With crowds continuing to be strong and earnings even stronger…maybe it doesn’t matter as much as it should.

Either way, they haven’t made me want to stop going yet. Not yet. We’ll see how that develops in the coming years though. In the meantime, I’m still finding myself capable of enjoying new things every time I visit. The above-pictured Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar is something I haven’t sampled since I was a kid and there was just one theme park on property. Maybe I’ll make a point to remedy that on my newest trip to Walt Disney World which is coming in just two weeks. Let’s take a look at what is new for me and what is tried and true.

Unboxing my New MagicBand 2.0! – Daffy Does Disney

As my Walt Disney World vacation approaches I continue hitting guideposts along the way. Today was a major one as my MagicBand arrived in the mail! Join me as I open it up and give it a look over!

Daffy Does Disney – 60 Days until Walt Disney World

Okay, I’ve got to warn you right up front. This is a trip planning video that has a pretty limited audience. If you’ve never spent time over-planning a trip to Walt Disney World what you see in this video will probably seem arcane and a little bewildering. If you’re one of those people who got annoyed with Lebeau’s 50 day countdown to his trip a few years ago, this post isn’t for you. There is no video of the beautiful parks. There are no bouncy sing-along songs. This is pure obsessive trip planning. Keep in mind that I actually trimmed more than four minutes from the original run time.

You’ve been warned.

Disney Songs Poll!

As will become very obvious in the coming days, Lebeau and I are both taking Disney-related trips later this month. Lebeau and family are taking their first Disney cruise while I am in Anaheim at roughly the same time. As such, Disney and vacations in general will dominate much of June here at Le Blog.

Instead of our typical bracket game, I’ve decided to fill the first three weeks of the month by writing about one song from an animated Disney feature film each day. You, our faithful readers, will have a hand in deciding which songs I will write about by ranking four different lists of songs provided below. Polldaddy only allows ten candidates in each ranking group, so I separated forty famous songs from the house of mouse into four different groups.

33-Day Disney Countdown in 1 Post (Steal It!)

100_7272

There comes that time in any wait to a vacation when it becomes hard to focus on anything else. That time usually comes for me about a week before the departure date. But we all know that the internal countdown begins long before the point of full distraction. Look around the internet and you’ll find a lot of different methods for counting down to an impending Disney trip. Heck, the photo above belongs to some little kid.

When some friends and I threw down the gauntlet and started planning an all-adults long weekend to the land of mouse, it was while we were in the middle of enjoying one of our day trips to Busch Gardens in Virginia. The plan to attend both the Food & Wine festival and the Halloween party was actually hatched as we launched out of the station of the roller coaster “Verbolten.” That was back in mid July.

One of our crew created a Facebook page for the trip, and as always, the planning and anticipation of the event have been almost as fun as I am hoping the trip itself will be. What I have decided to share is the numerically inspired trip countdown which I have created and posted for them over the last 33 days.

Disney World Trip Countdown: 8 Days

I spent the first 30-some days of this countdown reviewing my step-by-step plans for our Disney World trip.  And then, just as I was finishing it up, Disney made some scheduling changes that shifted things around.  So with just over a week to go, I tweaked every step of my plans.

I won’t subject everyone to another blow-by-blow of the newly revamped plans.  But for today’s countdown, I’m sharing the actual plans I generated at touringplans.com.

Disney World Trip Countdown: 11 Days

In yesterday’s countdown, I ran down a list of snacks I was looking forward to sampling on the trip.  Today, I am going to cover our “must-see” character list.

A lot of people tend to look down their noses at character meet and greets.  They take time out of your day that could be spent on one-of-a-kind attractions like Pirates of the Caribbean, the Haunted Mansion or Tower of Terror.  But for us, meeting the characters is an equally important part of the Disney World experience.

Disney World Trip Countdown: 12 Days

We’re getting into the final days of the countdown.  I have already mapped out my plans for the trip in excruciating detail.  Which is really kind of pointless, because last-minute changes to park operating hours have shaken up those details.  The overall plan remains the same, but the step-by-step itinerary I have spent the last 38 days laying out has been turned on its ear.  Which is probably just as well.  Once we get into the parks, all bets are off anyway.  As I have said in every count down article so far, things never go according to plan.

Having spent over a month detailing my touring plan, I’m going to switch things up for the last few days of the countdown.  From here on out, it’s a grab bag.  You never know what I’m going to cover next.  Frankly, neither do I.  See, I can be spontaneous!
