Epcot World Showcase Bracket Game: France vs. Germany

Flag-Pins-France-Germany

In the beginning, EPCOT was designed by Walt Disney as the “Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow”, a futurist’s dream, what was to be a showcase of ingenuity and innovation. The idea of an entire showcase metropolis to be built in the orange groves of Central Florida passed away along with Walt, but his vision remained, albeit tweaked.

With the Magic Kingdom having been a major success, plans for a followup park were set in motion. Imagineers were conflicted on the park’s unifying theme, however. Some wanted to solely exhibit the showcase of Tomorrow that Walt had pictured, others wanted a World’s Fair-style display of the world’s nations and cultures.

Under-rated Disney World: Coronado Springs Resort

csr wide view

I hesitate to say that any Disney World Resort is under-rated because frankly they are all over-priced.  However, savvy Disney World guests know that discounts abound.  Even discounted, I wouldn’t call Disney-owned hotel rooms a bargain.  But the expense can be rationalized given the uniqueness of the on-property experience.

Disney breaks down their hotels into three broad classifications: Value, Moderate and Deluxe.  Guests who are looking to stretch their dollar tend to stay in the Value resorts.  Those who are looking for luxury at any price, stay at the Deluxe resorts.  But the Moderates tend to be over-looked.  They cost significantly more than the Value resorts.  Many guests question whether or not the extra amenities are worth the expense.

As with any Disney World planning related question, the answer depends on your group’s priorities.  For my family, the Moderate resorts are frequently worth the extra expense because we tend to spend time at the resort in between visiting the parks.  To date, we have stayed at two of the three Moderate resorts.  We have stayed at Port Orleans and Coronado Springs.  We have yet to visit Caribbean Beach.

I could make an argument that all three resorts are somewhat under-rated.  But of the three, I feel that Coronado Springs tends to be over-looked the most.

Details on Disney World’s Top Secret Project

cinderella-castle-disney-world

No, I’m not talking about the proposed Hollywood Studios expansion.  Details have finally started to leak about Disney’s new My Magic Plus aka FastPass Plus.  This initiative has been in the works and tightly under wraps for years now.  Disney has been testing the new FastPass on and off for about a year now.  Originally, they had planned to roll it out in late 2013, although I am hearing 2014 is more realistic.

The details have been wrapped in secrecy as Disney tested their system and decided how best to monetize it, I mean give their guests the best experience possible. Those details have been mostly hammered out, although they are subject to change if Disney feels the need to do so.

Forum poster and generally connected Disney scooper, WDW1974, posted the details for all to see at wdwmagic.  Details after the jump:

Disney World Trip Report 2012 Part 3

When we left off, we had blown through a series of meet and greets in a mostly empty Future World.  As we entered the Showcase, I realized why Future World was so empty.  Everyone was in the back half of the park enjoying the Food and Wine Festival.

Disney World Trip Report 2012 Part 2

When we left off, we had just arrived at Epcot.  We met Goofy and Daisy Duck at the entrance.  Between the two of them, they had won Kara over to the point where she couldn’t wait to see more characters.  She stated very matter-of-factly that Mickey and Minnie were next.  Which makes a certain kind of sense given her experience so far.  The characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse seemed to be lined up waiting to meet her.

After a year of careful planning and preparation, my family vacation to Walt Disney World has finally come and gone.  Going into the trip I was excited and more than a little anxious.  I had sunk a lot of time, effort and resources into this get-away.  It was very important to me that everyone have a good time.

My Disney World Memories – Part 4

In the last installment of this series, I gave a pretty detailed account of the first full day of our 2003 honeymoon in Disney World.  I don’t remember the exact sequence of events for the rest of the trip.  So I am going to recount the highlights in no particular order.
