Boardwalk Empire: “Just Like They Used to Be”

Everybody on HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” took advantage of Easter 1923 to take stock of where their lives are as opposed to where they had been. In some cases this meant desperately trying to return to normalcy, while in others it meant realizing that things had to change forever. “The more things change, the more they stay the same?” ehhh…Maybe.

Boardwalk Empire: A Gangster in Full?

Jimmy Darmody’s admonition to Nucky Thompson in season one of HBO’s “Boardwalk Empire” that he could no longer be “half a gangster” has been a long-running theme on the series. Nucky tried to dance a line of respectability through most of the first two seasons, balancing his prohibition profiteer status with his position of respect in the community. Coming into this season off of Nucky’s murder of Darmody, his character arc has clearly been in question. Would we see the greasy politician with his fingers in unsavory places, or would we see Nucky pulled further into his darker dealings?

Boardwalk Empire: Appetizers and Just Desserts

Oh, Boardwalk Empire, how I’ve missed you. You’ve got more twists than a barrel full of pretzels.

The prohibition era gangster drama finished its second season back in December in a pile of bodies. Series regulars got bumped off in each of the season’s last three episodes, with second lead Michael Pitt’s Jimmy Darmody taking the fall for his half-assed duplicity as the eventual topper. The cascade of recognizable character deaths appears to have boosted the show’s water cooler status, so….
