4th of July in Chicago

undefined

Chicago is a fun place to visit any time of year, or at least, 3 seasons out of the year for most people.  This year the RB clan decided on the spur of the moment on a midsummer visit to the Windy City to see the fireworks display off Navy Pier.  While I don’t mind at all going there even in the dead of winter, there’s something really liberating about not being encumbered with winter coats, and all that warm clothing.  A casual summer weekend in Chicago can easily be accomplished with what you can fit into a backpack.

Disney World Trip Report 2012 Part 6

When we left off, the girls cooled off in the Big Blue Pool while Mom and Mindy napped in the suite.  After a little rest and relaxation, we were headed back to the Magic Kingdom for a few more attractions before dinner.

Disney World Trip Report 2012 Part 5

When we left off, we had blasted through Fantasyland and Liberty Square.  The next item on our agenda was to tackle both of the mountains in Frontierland.  The only problem was, Big Thunder was down.  Fast thinker that I am, I immediately grabbed FastPasses for the attraction and off we went to Splash Mountain.  Read the rest of this entry

WDW - Cinderella Castle

When we left off, we had finished our first night at Epcot.  All in all, it was a pretty perfect first day.  The next morning, we got up early for our first full day at the Magic Kingdom.

Disney World Trip Report 2012 Part 3

When we left off, we had blown through a series of meet and greets in a mostly empty Future World.  As we entered the Showcase, I realized why Future World was so empty.  Everyone was in the back half of the park enjoying the Food and Wine Festival.

Disney World Trip Report 2012 Part 2

When we left off, we had just arrived at Epcot.  We met Goofy and Daisy Duck at the entrance.  Between the two of them, they had won Kara over to the point where she couldn’t wait to see more characters.  She stated very matter-of-factly that Mickey and Minnie were next.  Which makes a certain kind of sense given her experience so far.  The characters from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse seemed to be lined up waiting to meet her.

Disney World Trip Report 2012 Part 1

After a year of careful planning and preparation, my family vacation to Walt Disney World has finally come and gone.  Going into the trip I was excited and more than a little anxious.  I had sunk a lot of time, effort and resources into this get-away.  It was very important to me that everyone have a good time.

My Disney World Memories – Part 7

In Part 6, I covered the unusual circumstances that lead to our Fall 2008 Orlando trip.  After a bit of a rough start, we were finally ready to visit some of Orlando’s theme parks.  Mindy’s priority was Sea World which made it my priority as well.

My Disney World Memories – Part 6

In Part 5, I covered Josie’s first trip to Walt Disney World.  During that trip, my wife and I made the decision to grow our family by one.  To be accurate, Mindy had made this decision shortly after Josie was born.  But during our 2007 WDW, I agreed that the time was right.

My Disney World Memories – Part 5

When we returned from our Disney World honeymoon in 2003, I had absolutely no intention of coming back any time soon.  I enjoyed it.  But I had my fill.  Mindy and I talked about making a return trip in a decade when we had kids who were “the right age” to enjoy it.  It’s now nine years later and we have been back three times with a fourth trip planned for the fall.

My Disney World Memories – Part 4

In the last installment of this series, I gave a pretty detailed account of the first full day of our 2003 honeymoon in Disney World.  I don’t remember the exact sequence of events for the rest of the trip.  So I am going to recount the highlights in no particular order.

A Very Weasley Halloween

Because my wife’s birthday is in October, we’ve taken to Halloween-tinged trips to celebrate the last couple of years. Last year it was “Howl-O-Scream” at Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia, which was great fun. This year we decided to go see the “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando.
