Chicago is a fun place to visit any time of year, or at least, 3 seasons out of the year for most people. This year the RB clan decided on the spur of the moment on a midsummer visit to the Windy City to see the fireworks display off Navy Pier. While I don’t mind at all going there even in the dead of winter, there’s something really liberating about not being encumbered with winter coats, and all that warm clothing. A casual summer weekend in Chicago can easily be accomplished with what you can fit into a backpack.
When we left off, we had blasted through Fantasyland and Liberty Square. The next item on our agenda was to tackle both of the mountains in Frontierland. The only problem was, Big Thunder was down. When we left off, we had just arrived at Epcot. We met Goofy and Daisy Duck at the entrance. Between the two of them, they had won Kara over to the point where she couldn’t wait to see more characters. She stated very matter-of-factly that Mickey and Minnie were next. Mindy and I talked about making a return trip in a decade when we had kids who were “the right age” to enjoy it. It’s now nine years later and we have been back three times with a fourth trip planned for the fall.
Because my wife’s birthday is in October, we’ve taken to Halloween-tinged trips to celebrate the last couple of years. This year we decided to go see the “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” at Universal’s Islands of Adventure in Orlando.
